Thoughts on Today’s Runners

March 5, 2020

Two runners from Sarsen Farm today (5th March 2020). First up is Brute Force at Southwell. The gelding runs in the 2.35pm. Adam McNamara is in the irons for the one mile maiden. Brute Force is drawn in stall 5. The big rangy gelding showed a little bit on his first start last summer before a niggle sidelined him. He will probably be suited by a bit further, today is a fact finding mission to see how he handles the fibresand surface.

At Southwell a lot is determined by the horse that handles the surface best. Mesmeric was second on his previous start and sets the standard. Shoot To Win, showed promise when second on debut and looks his biggest rival. Betushka is another who can go well and may enjoy the surface.

Brute Force is by Paco boy, out of Free Falling and was bred by Kate Hills and Highclere Stud. He is owned by A C Entertainment Technologies Ltd. The gelding will be led up by James Pulley, and overseen by travelling manager, Shaun Johnson.

Our second runner of the day is Chitra in the 6.00pm at Newcastle. Joe Fanning is in the saddle for the 5 furlong handicap. The filly is drawn in stall 6. The drop back in grade will make life easier for Chitra but she was far from disgraced in a listed race last time out and a similar performance should see her going very close to registering her eighth career win.

Tathmeen could repeat his successes of last month when twice a course and distance winner. War Whisper and Jonboy were not far behind and a reversal of form is not unlikely.

Chitra is by Sea The Moon, out of a Shamardal mare, Persian Star. She was bred and is owned by Gary and Lesley Middlebrook. She will be led up by Ilse Belien and overseen by Claire.
