Three on the Spin?April 7, 2012
Spin Again has been declared for the 3.35 at Yarmouth on Monday, William Buick takes the ride replacing Richard Kingscote who is on duty for Tom Dascombe at Redcar. This is a tougher race than the opposition Spin Again has faced in his two wins so far for us, as well as being a slight venture into the unknown in terms of the switch to the turf. His turf handicap mark is lower than that for the all weather and is the main reason we have decided to switch. We haven’t worked him on turf but he did win on it in the past so one would be hopeful he is capable of performing well. The going is currently Good to Soft and seems unlikely to change with overcast conditions and only a small amount of rain forecast. His action suggests he would probably not want it to get too soft and he has rarely run on ground slower than good so it would be a concern were the going to get much softer. He is in good heart, looks more toned and weighs slightly more than he did going into his last run and must have a good chance if handling the conditions.
Amongst the opposition Viking Rose looks a serious contender having been progressive and consistent last season, Caldermud should find conditions to suit although he may still be a little high in the handicap. Joe Le Taxi and Whiskey Junction look as though they have chances although the distance may stretch them both, whilst the opposite could be said of Mister Green who may find this on the sharp side. Director’s Dream makes his first start in a handicap and could show improved form as he has an eye catching jockey booking in Paul Hanagan and by far his best run in maidens was with blinkers which he once again wears.
Cobbs Quay took the eye when we worked a couple of horses on the turf yesterday morning and wouldn’t be too far away from a run, this strapping son of Danehill Dancer out of Group one placed mare Rave Reviews was picked up out of John Gosden’s yard at the horses in training sales last October and looks like he is really enjoying Whitsbury. After giving him a spell at grass we have done a lot of work to build his strength and condition over the winter, it would be nice to think he will fulfil some of the potential he showed in his early starts for his previous trainer.
