Alezanna heads to WindsorJune 25, 2012
Alezanna runs tonight (25th June) at Windsor, Simon Pearce takes the ride. The main aim is for her to have a good experience in making her first start, she got a fright in the paddock a week ago and unseated the jockey. Since then we have done plenty of work with her and Simon who is apprentice to Andrew Balding came down and rode her in a piece of work so they could get to know each other. We know Simon well from his winters work riding out in California for Daniel’s former boss Ben Cecil. He has an intelligent approach to riding and spent a lot of time with hall of fame jockey Mike Smith who has ridden over 5,000 winners and won just about every big race going in the states, working not just on his riding but also a fitness regime that has kept Mike as strong as any jockey going well into his forties.
The race is tough as its an open maiden for colts as well and the bend at Windsor can be challenging for an inexperienced horse. The ground should be ok as it looks to be a dry day so one would expect good ground by the time racing starts. The most obvious winner would appear to be the once raced Barkis, although Cayuga has a very good pedigree and has shown some promise and both Admiralty and Pearl War have hinted at ability in previous starts.
