Two Runners Monday – thoughts on both

September 2, 2012

Your Word is a recent recruit who runs in the 3.20 at Fos Llas with Dane O’Neill on board. She has shown a little ability at home and sports blinkers for the first time on her first run in a handicap. She has been somewhat immature in her maiden races and the idea is to get her to concentrate with the blinkers, they seem to have helped in her work. She is a very big rangy filly and still slightly on the weak side. She is from a very good female family and if she could show win it would increase her value, she will probably be a better filly next year but such is the commercial market for broodmares that a win at three is far more desirable than one at four. ┬áNothing jumps out as a standout in the race, Nafa could be an interesting contendor on his first start for new connections, recent Chepstow winner Athaakeel and Running Mate who is lightly raced in recent months are others who could figure in this open looking contest.

Great Charm returns to action after a short break in the 18.00 at Wolverhampton over seven furlongs with Mickael Barzalona riding. He wears a tongue tie for the first time and takes a very slight drop in grade. He has worked nicely in the tongue tie and we are hoping for something like a return to his first start for us which saw him finish third at Chepstow. The key with him is relaxing early in the race as he has a tendency to throw away his chance by being keen. As is typical of this sort of race at Wolverhampton a case can be made for several horses – Chambles, Amoure Medici and One For Joules all have pieces of recent form that suggest they are capable of a big race here. Whilst Glenridding has the ability to win this especially if he can dominate from the front as is his want.
