Thoughts on Monopoli’s chances at Kempton TomorrowApril 21, 2013
Monopoli is our first runner for a few weeks in the 4.50 at Kempton tomorrow (April 22nd). Richard Thomas takes the ride as he knows the filly having ridden quite a bit of work on her. She didn’t handle the surface at Southwell on her last start and so a line can probably be put through that run. She has had a tendency to be keen in both her starts for us and will have to settle better if she is to have a chance.
The horse that will probably be the chief threat is Rowlestone Lad who is a decent hurdler who has only turned his hand to flat racing very recently. Having run three times over unsuitably short distances he now has a handicap mark that is well below what it ought to be on the ability he has shown over hurdles. His connections must be pleased with themselves and he ought to run well now he is running over a trip that ought to suit him. Foxhaven ought to be mentioned as he has dropped a long way from his peak and if able to muster some of his past ability the old boy could be competitive at the lowest level of racing he has ever contested. Shirataki and Thane of Cawdor have been in good heart of late and will keep everyone honest even if this is a slightly better contest than their recent victories.
