Rain stops play – will resume tomorrow, read our thoughts on what will hopefully be our first turf runner of the year tomorrow.May 14, 2013
Monopoli was taken out at Chepstow today as the rain started to come and the ground changed. The forecast looked horrific and we didn’t want to run her on bottomless ground. So we decided to save her the journey. She will probably run at Newbury on Friday instead.
Disko will be our first two year old runner of the season in the 6.10 at Bath tomorrow (15th May). Very promising apprentice Darren Egan takes the ride in the five furlong maiden. Darren certainly caught the eye last year in his first season in Britain and looked likely to win the apprentice jockeys title until injury cut his year short. Disko is a two year old by Kodiac out of a mare who has produced two winners from two foals. She has done some nice work at home but a slight hold up a few weeks ago means that she will come on for the run fitness wise. Mentally it will do her good to get on the racecourse and start learning her job and hopefully she will get a nice introduction, that she can build on in subsequent starts.
There is little to on in the way of form amongst her opposition, with only two of the participants having already run. Dovil’s Duel started favourite for the Brocklesby so presumably had been showing up well at home and ran ok, but failed to build on that on his second start. Lilbourne Lass was a nice looking filly at the sales who caught our eye and is in top hands so has to be respected.
We wouldn’t want to run Disko on very soft ground and give her hard race and she has been declared at Salisbury on Thursday as a back up to this engagement.
