Thoughts on two runners at Carlisle

September 9, 2014

Two two year old fillies head to Carlisle tomorrow (Wednesday 10th September). Dream Approval opens proceedings in the 2.20. Robert
Winston replaces the injured Luke Morris in the six furlong nursery. The filly has done nothing wrong in defeat on her last two starts in similar company, just going down in the dying strides both times to finish third and second. Raised another two pounds by the handicapper for her most recent effort in all future starts she is creeping up the weights without winning which is a frustration with the system.

There are a few handicap debutants but they will have to improve a good bit to give the more experienced runners a race and Intruder looks the main danger after staying on late over five furlongs on his nursery debut last time.

Mandria has her third start in the 3.25. Robert Winston takes the ride in the seven furlong maiden. She’s a filly that has always worked well at home and has in no way matched that on course to date. She has looked in need of the experience on both starts but hopefully will have a better idea this time around. The quicker ground should be a help. We’ve trained a couple by the sire and it would be a common trait that they aren’t the fastest of learners.

Assuming that Housemaker who ran today at Leicester doesn’t make a quick reappearance Bright Flash looks the main contender. Fourth in two good maidens at big summer meetings her form looks strong. Bobbies Girl looks capable of improving on her second start and it’s reasonable to expect improvement from Midnite Girl who started to work out what was expected late on in her first start.
