Thoughts on Karnage 4.30, Zippy 4.50 and I Wouldn’t Bother 6.10

October 18, 2016

Three runners at three tracks late this afternoon (Tuesday 18th October). Karnage is the first to run up at Newcastle in the 4.50 with the excellent Oisin Murphy having his first ride for the yard. Karnage was much more encouraging on his return to the all weather last time out. He was a bit unlucky to hit quite a bit of traffic without which he would have been a lot closer to the front. Hopefully the wide straight mile at Newcastle should mean such issues don’t arise.

The race itself is wide open with plenty showing fairly consistent recent form in this grade or just falling short in better races and cases could be made for several but perhaps Normandy Knight brings the best recent efforts to the table and for what its worth has the senior of the trainers jockeys from his three runners.

Zippy gets her turn twenty minutes later (4.50) at Yarmouth. Champion Apprentice Josie Gordon is back in the plate and the softer ground will help the pairs chances. Zippy has run her two best races with give in the ground and ran well on faster than ideal ground last time out at Brighton and should have every chance this afternoon.

The race looks a good spot for Zippy with only Robbie Roo Roo having solid recent form and the veteran Captain Scooby ran a better race than of late last time.

I Wouldn’t Bother is the final runner of the day in the  6.10 at Kempton. Timmy Murphy is once again this raw horse who has shown potential at home but is still very up behind and has plenty of filling out to do. A much bigger model than his full sister than You’re My Cracker we expect him to come into his own next season and today’s race is about learning to race on the all weather and around a bend having gone twice on pretty soft ground on straight tracks. His future lies in handicaps next year and this will probably be his last run for the year.

On a track where the draw matters Aqdameya looks a likely candidate to take the honours in a race that lacks a standout on those that have run, the drop in trip ought to pose no problem. Dagonet should appreciate the extra furlong but must come from a wide draw as does Nibras Again who’s rating of 76 sets a fair standard.
