Outrage wins again at Haydock

Outrage just got his second win of the year up on Saturday afternoon at Haydock. Travelling much the best of anything in the race two furlongs out it was clear he was the best horse in the race. What was a lot less clear was how George Baker was going to get him to the front front of affairs. Forced to commit to a path it came down to the last few strides as a gap on the rail was just big enough for Outrage to fit through.

After a dismal start to the season Outrage is really starting to show his potential out on the course, carrying a 10-3 burden to victory to follow up his comfortable success at Yarmouth. As a lightly raced four year it was tough for him in handicaps as although he had the ability he seemed to be slightly intimidated in amongst the hurly burly of seasoned sprinters. The key was to get him into a race where he were everything happened a bit slower and he could gain confidence in amongst horses. He ran his first creditable race of the season at Wolverhampton under George Baker over seven furlongs. Although only finishing fifth he travelled and learned plenty in amongst horses especially when George convinced him to go through a gap he really didn’t want to take. Dropped back to six on his next start and drawn wide he was able to dictate a good pace at Ffos Las under Dane O’Neill, just collared late on by a progressive type who went on to win his next start it became obvious that dropping him in might work better. So it proved with Dane doing exactly that at Yarmouth next time out where once asked to quicken he put some consistent types well behind him in a matter of strides.
