Thoughts on Alaskan Phantom and Bailiwick at Chelmsford

Two runners at Chelmsford today (Thursday, November 12th) both ridden by Richard Kingscote.

Alaskan Phantom is the first in the 4.25 a six furlong nursery. The filly didnt really build on a very promising debut, getting wound up in the preliminaries on both ocaissions subsequently. She was not disgraced in reasonable maidens and this looks a fair opening mark to begin her handicap career. Sadly she has been given a very wide draw on a track with a strong bias for those drawn nearest the rail. She will wear a hood in an effort to keep her as relaxed as possible before hand.

Bailiwick goes in the seven furlong handicap at 7.25. He will probably be better over a mile in time but was only beaten three and half lengths over this trip in a similar race last time after meeting a bit of trouble in running. If he can get away well from a good draw he should be competitive in an open looking race.
