Thoughts on Chizz de Biz at Chelmsford
Chizz de Biz goes to Chelmsford for the 6.25 this evening. With regular jockey George Downing on holiday celebrating his engagement (congratulations by the way) Rob Hornby another talented young rider takes over in the saddle. Rob has enjoyed a solid year, his first without a claim including a wins at Listed level. This is often one of the toughest periods for a young jockey and he has done well to keep the momentum going. We have always been impressed by his feedback and the way he rides, having a solid grounding at Kingslcere with the Balding’s where so many successful jockeys have begun their careers has given him an excellent grounding. He proved he is a horseman by winning the flat jockey’s hurdle earlier in the week too. Today’s five furlong event will be a bit different from that experience. Chizz de Biz made a pleasing debut at Goodwood, but hasn’t really progressed in her next two starts quite as we expected, on both occasions over six furlongs she travelled well but faded towards the end. On that basis a drop to five furlongs should be in her favour. We’ve popped a pair of cheek pieces on just to sharpen her up as we drop back. The drop into a nursery should make life easier too.
The race looks a competitive affair with Blessed To Empress and Magic Pulse looking very unlucky in running last time out and well capable of winning at this level. Just for the Craic got the job done and sets the standard that they will have to surpass if he is as effective on the all weather surface.
