Thoughts on Cobbs Quay at Wolverhampton on Saturday night

Cobbs Quay runs in the 7.15 at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening. Simon Pearce takes the ride.  The horse seems to have come out of his last race well, it was a much more promising run as he finished second in the first time blinkers. He steps up slightly in trip, through lack of opportunity at the mile which he ran well over last time. The shorter straight at Wolverhampton probably doesn’t play to his strengths like the long home stretch at Kempton. He is also drawn wide, which is never helpful around a tight track; but as we will probably be dropping him in behind what looks a strong pace hopefully this won’t have too much of an impact if we get splits at the right moments.

The opposition whilst far from being the strongest group ever assembled certainly contains some in form horses. Neige D’Antan won a weak contest but has avoided the wrath of the handicapper and runs off only a pound higher and should be close once again. Goldmachen is another who has been in good form of late but she has had plenty of racing recently so is going to have to be tough to hold her form. Kathleensluckylad won against his contemporaries last time out and if he can show similar form will give his elders plenty to think about here. It is also worth paying attention to the Irish raiders in these contests at Wolverhampton as its a lot of effort to come for a small prize, both Golan Heights and Vinniespride cross the Irish Sea for Saturday’s race.
