Thoughts on Covenant this afternoon at Newmarket
Covenant runs in the 4.15 this afternoon at Newmarket. Richard Kingscote takes the ride in the ten furlong handicap. Covenant won his maiden comfortably last time out and this is a step back up in grade for him. He looks very well at the moment. The race is wide open and we should learn a lot from today. Ground and trip should both suit although we do think he will be better over further in time.
Sahara and Spirited Acclaim look the main dangers but a case could be made for most of the runners. They both are stepping up in grade and perhaps significantly the latter steps up in distance not necessarily an obvious move on pedigree although it looked like it might work on her most recent start.
