Thoughts on Helm Rock

Helm Rock makes his seasonal reappearance on the turf today at Leicester (Friday, April 1st). He will be lining up in the mile handicap under Richard Kingscote. Helm Rock has the widest draw to overcome. The gelding won twice at Carlisle last year and he will be suited by the stiff finish here. Helm Rock enjoys the soft ground. He is a big horse and should improve as a four year old.

The race looks a tight affair, with much of the field making their seasonal appearance current form is tricky to assess. The four year olds in particular are all open to further improvement. Dark Spec is a very lightly seven year old and might still improve further. He beat Helm Rock into second at Pontefract in the Autumn, however Helm Rock meant one of the undulations all wrong that day and nearly came down.

Helm Rock runs for owners Capture The Moment VII. Today he will be led up by James Pulley who cares for him at home. Alex Swinswood is Helm Rock’s regular rider at home, with yard manager Lauren Webb riding most of his fast work.
