Thoughts on Southwold
Southwold bids for his third career win in the 8.00 at Southwell on Tuesday the 7th of March. Richard Kingscote is in the saddle as the pair bid to follow up on their recent course and distance win.
Southwold has made a bright start to his career, winning two of his first three starts. This race has the same conditions race as the race he won last time out. He is drawn a bit wide in stall 8, as he was last time out. He was still showing signs of his inexperience last time so there should be more to come.
A very similar field to the one Southwold beat last time out. Several of his rivals from that day are re-opposing. It was probably a race that favoured those positioned further forward so Masqool who came from further back could well pose the biggest threat. Of those coming here with different form lines Athmad, has been a bit out of form of late. As a result has slipped to a lower class of contest here. His very best form in recent years has been at a mile and quarter, so the drop back to mile is possibly against him.
Southwold runs in the colours of owners breeders Gary & Lesley Middlebrook. He will be led up by Epona Miller who cares for him at home. He is regularly ridden by Mark Lawson.
