Brief thoughts on Av a Word
Av a Word runs in the 2.10 at Southwell today. Josephine Gordon is in the saddle for the mile handicap. Av a Word was disappointing last time out having shown promise on his previous start. He is one of the horses who has ability but doesn’t quite understand what racing is about. The drop back here is not ideal but hopefully countered to an extent by the slower surface. It’s all a bit of an experiment as there wasn’t a suitable race over a mile and a quarter or a mile and a half in the near future.
The race looks fairly ordinary on paper with the inconsistent Viola Park having the best form to date, but a shocking performance on a previous attempt on the Fibresand. Handicap debutant Major Tom might well have a say with Silvestre de Sousa riding.
