Brief thoughts on Shamiana at Yarmouth today
Shamiana runs in the 5.10 at Yarmouth today. George Baker will ride in the mile and a half handicap. This races represents a step up in trip for Shamiana and is her first start on turf since joining us. She has been a model of consistency recently finishing third on her last four starts. Her trip has always been a slight conundrum but her sire is proving to get plenty of staying horses and if she settles well enough she should be capable of staying the trip as on physique she looks more of a stayer than a sprinter.
The race has a favourite in Brown Pete who may suddenly “improve” on recent form now that he has dropped considerably in grade since his last win over a year ago. That said he is not certain to stay the trip as the furthest he has won over is ten furlongs. Wasabi has an eye catching jockey booking and could go close on his recent flat form, although he has been a tad disappointing over hurdles in the winter. Zinnobar hasn’t run since last season but was knocking on the door when las seen and if straight enough for his break should be up to challenging.
