Looking to the future, a day at home

A fascinating fun packed day, we galloped some of the two year olds this morning and a couple of older horses that will be campaigning on the all weather in the coming weeks. This was followed by an enjoyable visit from Gordon Parsons who is a long time shareholder in the Diskovery Syndicate and a life long racing fan who popped in to see the latest exciting filly that the syndicate will race in 2017, before heading to nearby Newbury for the afternoon’s racing. We had a good chat and admired the strong looking daughter of Approve and Disko (a very quick early two year old).

The late morning was spent lunging all the yearlings. We like to get them accustomed to the environment they will be sat on for the first time and begin the process off slowly by lunging them for a couple of days before introducing anything new to them. At the moment we are dealing with yearlings that were bought from various sales and most will have done plenty of lunging before going to the sales. They’ve enjoyed a few weeks break, with plenty of time out in the paddocks and are ready for the real work to begin. We love these first few days as you watch each horse and begin to learn about their movement and temperaments.

The afternoon was spent working on our exciting development at Limes Farm in Upper Lambourn, which will become our future base. We had a very productive session with our architect Richard McGonigal of Equine Planning Solutions working on a barn conversion that will become, offices, tack rooms, staff rooms and a lovely owners lounge. Its fascinating to work on something that will restore a run down area in the centre of the village into a highly functional yet attractive training yard in keeping with the existing traditional style of the area.
