Monopoli take two, read our thoughts on her chances at Newbury tomorrow and a review of Disko’s run.

Monopoli will run in the 4.50 at Newbury tomorrow (17th May). Regular partner Richard Thomas will take the ride in the ten furlong handicap for horses rated 0-70. Monopoli hasn’t enjoyed much luck in her three starts for us so far, stumbling badly early in the race on her most recent start at Kempton. This will be her first start on the turf for us and as her best form is on the turf we hope that she can step up. What the going at Newbury is difficult to work out. The Clerk of the Course’s going repor does not tally with the going stick reading he has recorded looking back at historical data. This kind of action from is not helpful to the owners or connections of horses, wasted trips to the races are expensive and of no benefit to anyone particularly the horses. It looks as if it will be good ground for her, although she’ll appreciate a bit of cut over this trip.

With a couple of exceptions the race is filled with fairly exposed types and hopefully Monopoli can make a bold show.  Semeen is lightly raced and open to improvement on his first start as a four year old and has to rate one of he dangers in the field. London Silver has only run three times and has switched trainers since his last run – the change will have to have brought about plenty of improvement but a better performance is a possibility. The horse that seems to stand out on form is Perfect Cracker who runs off a much lower handicap mark than when last seen on the turf  last season. He ran well in a better race on the all weather recently. How he has been dropped so much by the handicapper without running on turf is a bit surprising and he looks a standout in this company.

Disko made a really bright start to her racing career at Bath last night (15th of May). Tucked in behind horses to keep out of the strong head win she met a fari bit of trouble in running before finishing with a flourish to grab second nicely. The winner had already flown by the time her gap arrived. There are plenty of positives to take from Disko’s performance and she will improve immensely for the run, her lovely owners looks set for a summer of fun. If you want to join them get in touch as there are still a couple of shares available.
