Solent Meads Wins!

Solent Meads beaten an agonising short head on Saturday night put that right yesterday evening under a very good ride from George Downing. Set an almost impossible task in stall 14 he was sent forward and managed to gain the lead just before the bend. Settled down and stacking the runners up behind him he got a nice breather and George hung onto him in the early part of the home straight before committing him for home with a strong ride. He saw off all challenges including a strong late run from the well backed Balgair. It was a race that looked decent for the grade and hopefully Solent can build on it and he may get a little further on the all weather or with such a low turf mark if we can still find some quick ground he may also be able to find an opening.

Peter Britton who owns Solent Meads started out with us by having a five percent share in our Diskovery Partnership, a great introduction to owning racehorses. He has increased his interest over time and after owning a leg in Affileo who race for Capture the Moment and sold for a large sum to America following an impressive maiden win committed the funds to owning a horse outright to race in his name and colours, so last night was something of an ambition achieved. Peter has owned shares in horses for many years and enjoyed a lot of success on the track but there’s something a bit special about a win in your name and own colours.

Solent Meads victory also had a bit of extra significance for us as it means that we keep a 100% record of winners for every colt we have bought as a yearling. He was purchased at the Goffs Sportsman’s Sale and is the first foal out of No Trimmings by Intense Focus and bred by Thomas McHugh. We are heading out to Ireland next week to search for yearlings to strengthen the string for next season.
