Thoughts on Amor Invicto and Solent Meads at Wolverhampton today

Two runners at Wolverhampton this afternoon. First up is Solent Meads in the 3.40. George Baker rides in the extended nine furlong maiden. Solent Meads has progressed with each start. He missed the kick last time and was slow to get into the race but warmed to his task and finished to good effect over a mile at Chelmsford. We have done a bit of gate work since and popped a pair of blinkers to sharpen him up a bit as Richard Kingscote who rode him that day felt they would help his cause.

The race looks competitive on with several having similar levels of form to Solent Meads, the four fillies Hertford Dancer, Nostalgie, The Last Debutante and Pattie could all make an impact but Doctor Bartolo has shown slightly more and sets the standard. The newcomer Percy B Shelley is well bred and is from a yard that gets plenty of first time out winners.

Amor Invicto follows in the 4.40. He is ridden by Josephine Gordon in the extended mile maiden following a pleasing return to action from a lay off last time out. He was third that day in a fairly competitive handicap. Hopefully he can put his experience to good use from a good draw.

Of those that have run Amor’s only rival is Tarseekh. He has only run twice in slowly run maidens so it is slightly difficult to evaluate how good he really is, we decided it worth declaring and taking him on as opposed to taking on more hardened campaigners in a handicap. The two debutantes are of some interest, Belabour is a well bred horse albeit he was sold relatively inexpensively as unranced prospect in the summer and Champagne Freddie is a full brother to a horse that was useful enough.
