Thoughts on Arishka

Arishka runs in the 6.40 at Newbury this evening. Rob Winston will be in the saddle for the six furlong novice race. Her pedigree suggests she should have no trouble with the step up to six furlongs, her sire was best at five but managed third in the July Cup over six furlongs and her dam stayed a mile and a quarter and has bred mostly seven furlong winners. Furthermore she is a sensible relaxed filly and she should travel comfortably over six furlongs and be able to quicken. The flat track should be a plus as she didn’t really enjoy the undulations at Catterick last time out.

The race looks a very open affair and it’s a case that the horse that shows the biggest development from its first start or two is going to be the horse to take this race. Pass the Gin looks like she will relish the step back up to six and had a horrible track position in both her previous starts, she hasn’t looked the easiest of rides so if she matures and gets a bit more luck in running she sets the standard. The likely favourite Iconic Choice did look a little immature mentally early on in her first race, but also looked like she will be better suited by further. She does have plenty of room for improvement and will be more professional this time. The newcomer Pont Vert is bred to be quick.
