Thoughts on Av a Word at Brighton

Av a Word makes the trip to Brighton this afternoon. Luke Morris will be back on board the gelding in the ten furlong classified stakes. A slightly frustrating horse who until his last start had been going forward with racing Av A Word has the ability to win races but isn’t the most straightforward horse. He will be back on turf for the first time since leaving maiden company and we have had this race in mind for a while hence he hasn’t run for a while. Brighton isn’t to every horses taste and that is a question we can’t really answer until we’ve tried but on physique there’s no obvious reason that he won’t handle the track. He probably wouldn’t want too much cut in the ground, so further rain would be a concern.

Some fairly moderate sorts in this race and unless one of the three year old’s stepping out of maiden company takes a big step forward four year old Betsalottie sets the target for them to aim at. Varun’s Pride could be a danger if the extra three furlongs helps her.
