Thoughts on Av a Word at Wolverhamtpon
Av a Word runs in the 15.25 at Wolverhampton tomorrow afternoon (Thursday 23rd of March). Luke Morris will be riding the gelding in the mile and a half handicap. The gelding is not entirely straightforward, often running in snatches and seems to put his best foot forward when he gets a bit of space around him. Hopefully the slower tempo of a mile and half race should be to his liking. He finished very strongly over a mile at Southwell last time out, having looked as if he would be virtually last at one point entering the home straight. We will have make a plan with Luke tomorrow, who will no doubt have a few ideas of his own. Although Luke has not ridden the horse before he does plenty of homework on his mounts and puts his great experience to good use, his strength in the saddle will be of great assistance as well.
Looking at the race itself the main danger looks to be Knightsbridge Liam who put up a good performance over nine and a half furlongs last time out in a better race, when looking as if the extra distance would be to his liking. Last time out winner Bessemer Lady will be the one setting the standard as a last time out course and distance winner when she prevailed by half a length in a similar race.
