Thoughts on Chitra

Chitra runs in the 5.30 at Chepstow this evening. Adam McNamara is in the saddle for the first time aboard the tenacious filly. Although perhaps not her ideal track this looked an opportunity in a slightly better grade that was worth taking. The fact that less rain came yesterday then forecast is to her advantage.

The race isn’t as strong for the grade as one might expect. Most of Chitra’s rivals have a little bit to prove at present albeit plenty of them have plenty of ability at their best. Cowboy Soldier ran well enough at Newcastle last time that he is probably the standard setter here, on his day he is a decent sprinter. James Watt is in better form then most and ran well in this grade last time at Doncaster to finish third.

Chitra will be led up Alice Roberts and overseen by Shaun Johnson who rides her most of the time. She was bred and is owned by Gary and Lesley Middlebrook and has won seven races already, giving them plenty of fun.
