Thoughts on Chitra today

Chitra goes to Ascot today (Sunday 26th July) for the 1.20pm Fillies’ Handicap. Adam McNamara is on board for the five furlong sprint. Chitra is drawn in stall 7 which may be an advantage as it looked like the track at Ascot was favouring horses drawn on that side yesterday but the overnight rain may have changed that. The has won seven times and ran a cracking race last time out to be second. She has shown herself to be effective on all but he slowest of going.

There is a competitive contest, Seen the Lyte, Chitra and Rose Hip have met in the past and there isn’t much between them. She Can Boogie probably has achieved the most of the field in terms of form, having won class 2&3 races but she doesn’t seem to be quite in that form at the moment, we trained her dam Disko who like this filly had bags of speed but had a tendency to over race. She seems to really thrive on soft ground so any further rain should advantage her. The lightly raced three year old Diligent Lady has shown potential and is open to improvement. Ishvara has run in some fairly tough contests and won nicely at lower levels and struggled in higher ones, also three she is probably still improving and is likely to be competitive at this level.

Chitra is by Sea The Moon, out of the Shamardal mare, Persian Star. The tenecious filly was bred and is owned by Gary and Lesley Middlebrook. She will be led up by James Pulley.
