Thoughts on Closeness
Closeness runs in the 5.30 at Wovlerhampton on Tuesday evening. Kieran Shoemark maintains his partnership with the five year old mare in the seven furlong classified race.
Closeness drops back a furlong today. All her starts for us have been over a mile, and whilst it would be unfair to say she doesn’t get the distance she has just been caught in the final furlong a couple of times. We felt dropping back a furlong might just be enough to get her head in front.
A pretty open contest, Dodgy Bob, Won Love & Wooders Dream all have wins over course and distance reasonably recently in similar contests. However, they aren’t very much better than this grade so they look vulnerable to something that might be. Gatwick Kitten ran as if this step up in trip might be plus last time. That was his first start for new connections. Romanovich has only made four starts and ran his best race yet last time. Another small step forward might be enough. Tanseeq is intriguing, he was once rated much higher. In the latter part of his career he has been racing in Ireland, where they don’t run contests as this level. He didn’t run badly on his first start for new connections last time in a better race than this in Ireland.
Closeness runs in the colours Lee David New. She will be led up by Ilse Belien who cares for her at home.
