Thoughts on Cobbs Quay at Goodwood
Cobbs Quay is running tonight (8th June) at Goodwood in an amateurs race over nine furlongs at 6.20. He will be ridden by the very experienced Serena Brotherton who won the corresponding race last year. The rain has been lashing down here and that should help our chances somewhat, although we are drawn wide which generally isn’t the best place to be drawn at Goodwood. The race looks wide open and cases can be made for many of the runners. We’re hoping the drop back in trip is a positive and that the horse has come on for his first run at Nottingham and settles better in the early part of the race. Bert the Alert is is the most likely to show improve form compared to the other horses in the field but had been disappointing since winning a maiden at Southwell before running a better race on turf in Guernsey last time out, quite how that form stacks up is difficult to gauge. Moody Tunes should be suited by trip and conditions and has been consistent at this sort of level. Pontentiale is well named in this instance although he would probably prefer faster ground and isn’t the force of old. Strike Force is another who should be in the mix if handling the ground.
