Thoughts on Diamanté today

Diamanté makes the trip to Beverley this afternoon (Tuesday, 16th May) for the 5.35. George Downing is in the saddle as the filly steps ups to a mile and a half on her handicap debut. Diamanté is gorgeous looking filly with plenty of size and whilst she was always going to need further than a mile her maiden runs were a little underwhelming. We are looking for a more professional approach to her race today and hopefully the extra distance will allow her to find a rhythm and get racing. Her dam won over a mile and half so the trip shouldn’t be a problem as her sire Big Bad Bob gets plenty who stay well. Her homework and demeanour at home have improved of late so hopefully she takes a step forward. The forecast is a bit mixed and she probably doesn’t want it too soft. The draw has been unkind and she has the widest stall of all to overcome.

There wouldn’t be much on form between Amadeus Rocks and Too Many Shots and its form that looks solid for the grade based on subsequent events. Handicap debutants are always a danger over these longer distances stepped up in trip. However Breakwater Bay drops in grade and steps up in trip and provides the most credible opposition based on what we’ve seen on the track.
