Thoughts on Disko in the Roses Stakes tomorrow
Disko becomes our third consecutive two year old stakes runner in the 4.25 Roses Stakes tomorrow afternoon. Luke Morris takes the ride in the five furlong listed race at York. Disko just missed earning black type on her last start for us when finishing fourth at Newmarket. Given a short break after that she missed her intended return last Friday and was rerouted here. She has continued to strengthen since her last run and is in good form at home. We felt after her last run that a drop back to five may suit her as she showed such good speed and only got run down in the dying strides. She looks to have been drawn amongst the other trailblazers so it may be she is able to take a slight lead off something, this ought to help her settle a bit as the one chink in her armour thus far has been a tendency to over race.
Although this is open to both colts and fillies, the race has traditionally been a happy hunting ground for fillies and they make up five of the eight runners. The once raced pair Hot Streak and Outer Space are both colts who if building on promising debuts could figure. The standard is probably set by Excel’s Beauty who improved markedly for the application of blinkers last time out and is expected to once again set a fearsome pace. Salford Red Devil is the third colt who has put together a good record at Chester but looked out of his depth in group company last time and he might find a couple too good here. Mecca’s Angel is unexposed and although it wasn’t much of race one has to be impressed with the style of her most recent win at Southwell, this though is a different test.
