Thoughts on Don Diego Vega

Don Diego Vega runs in the 7.25 at Wolverhampton this evening (Wednesday July 17th). James Sullivan will ride the gelding in the extended nine furlong handicap. Don Diego Vega has not set the world alight on his three racecourse visits so far. He’s always offered more ability at home and we have reached for the blinkers to assist him reproducing that on the track. The extra furlong and a half should suit him, and in time we would be interested in trying further.

Hydroplane looked to have turned a corner on his latest start and that run sets a standard that not many of these have looked like achieving so far. Rock Up In Style has actually won in a slightly higher grade but things haven’t gone well since. As result the horses most likely to challenge here are the lightly raced Broughtons Bear and Arcadienne both of whom tackle handicaps for the first time. A case could be made for Hooflepuff who has respectable handicap form and any improvement for being gelded and changing trainer should see him being very competitive.

Don Diego Vega races for Capture the Moment a more exclusive partnerships which race horses together in partnerships of 3-6 people. He will be led up by James Pulley and overseen by Shaun Johnson.
