Thoughts on Friday’s Runners

Two runners on Friday 6th of May, first up will be Lil Guff at Ascot in the 4.35pm, followed by Percy’s Lad at Nottingham at 7.40pm.

Lil Guff

Kieran Shoemark will be on board in the 6f Handicap. Lil Guff made a solid return to the track at Yarmouth a couple of weeks and should take a step forward today in terms of fitness. We probably also got the tactics a bit wrong when the predicted strong pace didn’t materialise.

A fiercely competitive sprint handicap with several strands of forming coming together. The draw and the pace will play its part too. A case could be made for many of the runners in the field.

Lil Guff will be running in the colours of owner & breeder Mr Wayne Clifford and will be led up by Epona Miller who rides her daily at home.

Percy’s Lad

Percy’s Lad was an impressive winner last time out on his yard debut. Richard Kingscote will be in the saddle again today as the gelding attempts to defy a penalty for that win. He was a course and distance winner as a two year old.

Swiss Ace was another impressive last time out winner and that has thinned the field somewhat to six runners. There has to be question over whether he will stay the mile. Legendary Day should not be discounted. Things went a bit wrong towards the end of last season but he returns gelded and had looked to be developing into a promising horse. Longlai will find this easier than some of the company he has kept in recent runs.

Percy’s Lad runs for owner Mr Alan Kerr and will be led up by Sammy Barnett whilst overseen by Shaun Johnson.
