Thoughts on Friday’s runners

Two runners tomorrow (July 4th). Thewaythewindblows gets his racing career under way in the 3.00 at Sandown. Thomas Brown is riding in the seven furlong maiden for two year olds. Thewaythewindblows is a tough burly colt who has taken quite a bit of getting fit and will come on for the run. He is a well put together grey colt and half brother to a couple of nice horses. He knows he is a colt and we took for a day out at Newbury recently and he behaved quite well, jumping from the stalls and having a nice canter on the course. He was a bit unruly in the stable yard beforehand but hopefully should be more settled tomorrow, but it would be no surprise if he was a little green in the preliminaries. He should develop into a nice horse in time but tomorrow’s run is very much with the future in mind.

Looking at the opposition Mustadeem stands out following a very good second at Newbury last time out. Mistamel and Tom Hark should improve from promising enough debuts and there are several well bred newcomers from top yards. This could be a race that contains several future winners it.

Trimoulet is the second runner in the 8.45 at Haydock. Thomas Brown will be making the journey from Sandown for the ride in the mile maiden. Trimoulet is a lovely big horse and wasn’t seriously trained until he was four as he needed to fill his frame, unfortunately an injury cut his season short just before he was ready to run. His patient owners brought back for a five year old campaign and touch wood he has been progressing nicely. He is very big and only just squeezes into the stalls and still isn’t the fastest away but is improving with practice. He should be relatively straight fitness wise, without being at his maximum and his performance is really about how he handles being in a race situation for the first time. He has shown a reasonable level of ability on the gallops. Being five severely restricts his options when it comes to finding a suitable maiden as he needs a galloping track and we felt tomorrow was a good starting point for his career.

Amongst the opposition the experienced pair Potent Embrace and Express Himself rated 77and 78 set a good standard, whilst The Character’s first appearance showed a degree of promise. There are also some interesting newcomers, Crowded and Holiday Magic are probably the most noteworthy.
