Thoughts on Fronsac at Wolverhampton

Fronsac makes his debut in the 3.25 at Wolverhampton this afternoon. The colt will be ridden by George Downing in the mile novice race. He is by Frankel out of the hardy and talented race mare Riberac. Riberac has produced nine winners from nine runners, including both Trimoulet who joined us as an unraced three year old and won four races and Intrigue whose only win came for the yard. This is the first horse that we have trained out of Riberac who we have had for the entirety of his career and its been exciting bringing him along to this point and the whole team is very much looking forward to tomorrow. He is very much still learning as he goes but definitely has enough ability to keep his mothers perfect record intact and should keep developing. He has the potential to make into a decent three year old. Several of Riberac’s runners have been talented and all have improved with racing so tomorrow is very much a spring board to the future.

Antonian finished fourth a couple of spots behind Kaser when both made their debuts recently over course and distance and that looks the best form on offer here, so they set the standard that these lightly and un-raced types will have to surpass. Both looked reasonably professional on the day with Antonian cutting out the running and whilst there will be inevitable improvement from both the race is open looking. A good performance from a debutant or a step forward from one of the others may well challenge them. La Mercerania certainly caught the eye late on over seven furlongs and should relish the extra furlong and a half here.
