Thoughts on Fronsac today
Fronsac heads to Salisbury this afternoon provided the ground doesn’t become too soft for the 4.20. Rob Winston will be aboard the gelding as he tackles ten furlongs for the first time in this handicap. His seasonal reappearance was hampered by a wide draw which meant he was never able to get properly involved as can be the case at Kempton last time out when he ended up posted wide on the track. From stall one that won’t be a danger today. He’s has been a tricky horse in the preliminaries in the past and there was some improvement on that front last time out and we’ll be looking for further again today.
The race looks competitive, it’s for horses that haven’t won this year and features a few horses that have been close without quite getting the job done. Steeve looks to have the most obvious claims after a second at Sandown in a higher grade last time out which looks more than anything Starfighter his chief market rival has achieved. Thechildren’strust is lightly raced for his age and has shown talent but is clearly not straightforward to train. He drops in grade here and ran well enough in a stronger race on his only start for a while last time out.
Fronsac will be led up by yard manager Lauren Webb who has worked extremely hard with Fronsac and rides him out everyday. She will be assisted by Travelling Manger Shaun Johnson. He runs in the colours of owner breeders Gary & Lesley Middlerbrook, who race his mother Riberac and many of her offspring.
