Thoughts on Helm Princess
Helm Princess makes her racecourse debut today at Leicester, she lines up at 5.20pm Maiden under Richard Kingscote. The filly came from the breeze up sales so is a bit more worldly wise than most debutantes that we would send out. She has been very professional and straightforward at home. The draw isn’t ideal. This race added last minute to the program, as there was a distinct lack of options over this trip. We were really aiming at something in a couple of weeks time, so there should be improvement still to come.
Helm Princess is by Norfollk Stakes winner Prince of Lir out of a full sister to a Super Sprint Winner so there is plenty of pace in the pedigree.
This race features a real mix of horses. Sacred Jewel showed by the far most ability any of those with form on her debut. However, she was very disappointing next time out (albeit on heavy going) and was sold by Godolphin thereafter. Dropping back in trip should help her, as she is a free going type. If her new connections have her in a good place she sets the standard. If not the much more exposed Taqaat ran well enough last time that others will have to step on what they have done to date.
Helm Princess runs for owners Mr Bell, Ms Thompson & Mr Middlebrook. She will be led up by Shannon Passotti and overseen by Shaun Johnson.
