Thoughts on Helm Rock

Helm Rock runs this evening in the 7.50pm at Carlisle. James Sullivan is in the irons as the pair bid to follow up their course victory together in the mile handicap. They are drawn in stall 4. Helm Rock handled the testing ground well that day and finished strongly suggesting an extra furlong should be ok.

Helm Rock winning at Carlisle

This does look a good opportunity for Helm Rock, Vindobla is the only other winner in the field but that came in a weaker race and she didn’t match that form. Perhaps the biggest danger comes from Iron Sheriff whose best form in Ireland was over mile on softer going, he has only run twice for current connections and both were over shorter trips, for which he has been dropped 6 pounds. This followed on from a drop of 4 pounds for his final run in Ireland over 7 furlongs, making it 10 pounds in total. One does question at times why the handicappers drop a horse running over a distance other than what is has shown its best form over quite so readily. This seems a far greater challenge to the integrity of the sport than Jason Watson looking after a horse that obviously panicked on its very first start on the racecourse and blew any realistic chance of winning.

Helm Rock is by Pivotal, out of the Invincible Spirit mare, Nibbling. He is owned by Capture The Moment and was bought at the Tattersalls Yearling sales. Capture the Moment is a partnership open to anyone, managed by Daniel & Claire. The aim is to develop and race quality prospects amongst a small group of owners. Epona Miller will lead Helm Rock up today, overseen by Shaun Johnson.

We are looking to set up some new partnerships in the coming months and if this would be of interest, please do get in touch – call Daniel on 07984287254 or send an email to daniel@kublerracing.com
