Thought’s on Helm Rock
Helm Rock makes his debut this afternoon in the 1.40 at Newbury, Adam McNamara will be aboard. A big, scopey son of Pivotal out of the Invincible Spirit mare Nibbling, today is very much about preparing him for next season. The dam was most effective over 11 to 12 furlongs and her son is likely to require ten furlongs and beyond to be seen at his best.
A big field and not many have much experience and with some very well bred types from big stables its difficult to really know what Helm Rock is up against. With the ground on the testing side this could be quite a challenge for young horses and the result might indicate fitness more then ability at this stage of their careers. Eagle Terrace showed enough on his debut when finishing second on heavy ground that he sets the benchmark and has fitness on his side too. However, it would be no surprise if well bred newcomers like Moshaawer or King of Tsavo came to the fore.
Helm Rock will be led up by Billie Portwin. He races for the Capture the Moment partnership, a small syndicate personally managed by Daniel & Claire to give owners an exclusive & exciting experience. Just this week a new syndicate featuring a strong colt by up and coming young stallion New Bay has been launched. Find out more here. Helm Rock was purchased at the Tattersalls Book One sale and was bred by Anita Wigan.
