Thoughts on Hilltop Ranger at Goodwood
Hilltop Ranger makes her début this afternoon in the 4.35 at Goodwood this afternoon (Saturday 30th of April). Richard Kingscote takes the ride the seven furlong maiden. Hilltop Ranger had a few niggles as a two year old but has been a bit easier to train this season. We are still feeling our way a bit with her but she ought to make into a fun filly, she has shown an enjoyment for the job and some aptitude for it in her homework. Today is mostly about learning her job and its a difficult track for a débutante when taking on a field of horses that all have previous experience.
The field features several horses who have run consistently to handicap marks in the mid seventies and they set the standard but it would be no surprise to see one of the horses that is less experienced to run to a higher level than that and Langham and Showing Off both hinted at ability of a higher level on their respective débuts.
