Thoughts on Involved at Southwell
Involved heads to Southwell this afternoon for his second racecourse appearance in the 3.00. Luke Morris is in the saddle for the one mile maiden. Involved learned plenty on his debut and finished off his race nicely once he got the hang of things. We’ve done plenty of gate work since as he was slow away on that occasion and he should break better today. The extra furlong will be a plus and the only real question is how he will cope with the surface. Our horses do a reasonable amount of cantering on Fibre Sand so he has a familiarity with it, but the gallop isn’t ideal for fast work so we tend to do that elsewhere.
The race pits two consistent proven types in Craving and Love Rat against the promising once raced Dixieland Diva, all three have managed to fill the runners up spot already. Love Rat has form over the surface but probably a couple of pounds to find with Craving. Dixieland Diva hasn’t been seen since making a promising debut in July in a race which has a muddling look to the form, but she did have what proved to be some smart types in behind her.
Luke Morris has a great record when pairing up with Peter Onslow’s horses, pictured below in the black and white winning aboard Av A Word.
