Thoughts on Jack Blane at Brighton

The consistent Jack Blane heads to Brighton this evening for the 7.45 (Tuesday July 11th). George Downing will ride the gelding in the mile handicap. He probably ran his best race yet on his first attempt at a mile last time out at Wetherby when beaten only a length. This race is a slight ease in grade and although its a track that you never quite know until they have been around it, it ought to suit Jack who is a handy sized well balanced horse. There has to be a slight concern about the forecast rain getting into the ground and what effect that will have on Jack who has the action and pedigree of a top of the ground horse.

The race is competitive with the Luxford having won a similar race a couple of weeks ago in fairly comprehensive fashion with several of these rivals in behind including Lawfilly who finished 2nd. Lagertha has her first go in a handicap dropped significantly in trip and if the applied cheekpieces have the desired effect could also be in the shakeup.
