Thoughts on Lil Guff
Lil Guff runs tomorrow (Sunday 26th September) in the 5.50 at Ffos Las. Hollie Doyle is on board the two year old filly for the six furlong novice stakes and the pair are drawn in stall 1. Lil Guff has been pretty consistent in novice company with several placed efforts before getting a well deserved win last time. Now she shoulders a penalty she will need to find a bit more again. She does have experience on her side against her rivals.
Chepchik drops back in trip after being narrowly pipped on the line last time out and looks the horse to beat. Coast was second on debut, she looked as if she knew her job so whilst one always expects some improvement she probably falls just shy of the standard set by Chepchik. Macon Belle started her career well, but hasn’t gone on in her last couple of starts dropped back to five furlongs, so needs to bounce back, but if doing so has decent claims. There isn’t anything obvious amongst the newcomers as they hail from yards where the horses generally improve with racing.
Lil Guff is by Twilight Son, out of the Holy Roman Emperor mare, Lady McGuffy. She is owned and was bred by Wayne & Sarah Clifford at their Byerley Stud. She will be led up by Epona Miller, who cares for the filly at home and rides her most of the time.
