Thoughts on Marmande tomorrow at Lingfield

Marmande runs in the 2.00 at Lingfield tomorrow (25th January). Kieran O’Neill takes the ride in the one mile maiden. Marmande made an inauspicious start to her racing career at Wolverhampton at the beginning of the month. Drawn widest of all she was very green into the first bend and lost a lot of ground early on and had to race in a lot of kickback for the remainder of the race. It was frustrating as she isn’t the quickest learner and its hard to think she got much out of the race. She’s done a little bit at home since and tomorrow is very much the next step in her education. With a handy draw in stall three she should be in the thick of the action and should learn plenty.

The field is made up with inexperienced sorts (just two of the runners have had more than one start) and therefore should be ideal for Marmande to get the hang of what racing is about. Clear Spell sets a decent standard from a handicap mark of 75  but was a length behind Secret Pursuit on his most recent start so they look the most likely winners unless one of the unraced horses can overcome inexperience. The well bred Dubawi Light might be the one on that front to take note of.
