Thoughts on Medrano

Medrano heads to Wolverhampton for the 8.35 this evening. He has taken to the all weather which is a good job as there isn’t much of his favoured easy ground at the moment for him to race on otherwise. He ran well a couple of starts back and had the subsequent Old Newton Cup winner in behind him that day when he finished to good effect from off the pace.  On his most recent start he was a touch slow away and they absolutely crawled around which meant those to the rear of the field had no chance of getting involved.

Given the very fast ground everywhere there are a lot of horses are waiting for an easier surface and this race looks very competitive for the grade at this time of year at Wolverhampton. Progressive three year olds are often to the fore in this type of race and Silver Character looks a contender on that basis with a course win and a placed effort over this distance to his name already.  Fitzsimmons has only had three starts including a bloodless victory last time out and is entitled to respect as he could well be open to further improvement. Of the older horse King Kevin returning from a break is one of several interesting contenders as he was progressive last winter and is unexposed over this distance with a win and second to his name the only two races he has run in over this far.
