Thoughts on Monday’s Runners
We start the new week by taking two runners to Windsor on Monday 13th May. In the first race at 4.30pm we have Rothay Park, he will be ridden by Richard Kingscote in the 1m Handicap. Siempre Arturo lines up later that evening in the 7.05pm 1 mile 2 furlong handicap, he will also be ridden by Richard Kingscote. All the both have had a few runs they are both making their turf debuts.
ROTHAY PARK
Rothay Park has appeared to be inconsistent in his runs to date. A lot of that we think is due to the variations in all weather surfaces that aren’t covered by the official going descriptions.
The clerks always tend to report the going as standard (or standard to slow at Kempton). Yet anyone who walks and rides the tracks or knows all weather gallops at home recognises that they speed up and slow down under different weather conditions and depending how they are harrowed. Analysis of race times shows there is quite significant variation. We’d highly recommend anyone who is interested to look at Timeform going descriptions which are based on post race analysis of sections.
Rothay Parks good runs have come when the tracks have been riding on the faster rather than the slow side. We’ve been waiting for an opportunity on fast turf. He’s also a little tricky to assess in terms of trip but he should get this far and his best run on the figures was when he tackled seven furlongs. He has been gelded and given a little freshen up after racing through the winter.
He’s Got Game split a pair of winners over course and distance and looks the one to beat. Let’s Get Em is bred to improve for this extra distance. Cadogan Gardens won on handicap debut and is entitled to show further progress on her seasonal reappearance. Global Asset was staying on behind Rothay Park on his most recent start last November and should appreciate the step up in trip and might benefit from gelding
Rothay Park runs in the colours of owners Gary and Lesley Middlebrook. He will be led up by Shannon Pasotti who rides and cares for him daily at home.
SIEMPRE ARTURO
Siempre Arturo had built up a nice profile with two wins from four starts. Things went awry upped in trip in a valuable Good Friday race, he travelled well, but didn’t seem to stay out the trip. The drop back in distance and class should give him a chance. He is still relatively inexperienced in relation to his rivals and Windsor is a tricky track to be making his turf debut. He’s a horse we like so hopefully class can overcome those challenges and the wide draw.
Desfondado would be a really tough proposition if this was over a mile, on pedigree he should stay this trip but he hasn’t convinced in his limited attempts to date. Loughville won a similar race last time at Bath but in very different conditions to these and needs to prove as effective in these conditions. Masqool hasn’t looked quite as good in better races but dropped to this level can be competitive again. Abu Royal struggled on easier going but is another who should prefer these faster conditions.
Siempre Aruturo was bred by Vivienne O’Sullivan who races the gelding together with Crowd Racing. A really fun racing club with a range of very affordable membership options. He will be lead up Sammy Barnett who cares for him at home.
