Thoughts on Mont Signal at Leicester and Chandelle Celeste’s debut

Mont Signal has his first day at the races tomorrow (28th of October) in the 1.50 at Leicester. Richard Kingscote takes the ride on this two year old in the six furlong maiden. He is tough horse who was very cheeky earlier in the summer and not very focused hence he was gelded,which seems to have done the trick as he has become more focused in his work and has some idea as to what he is supposed to do. His action suggests he will be suited by the soft going. He’ll learn plenty from the experience as we don’t push our two year olds too hard at home – our ethos is very much to develop racehorses that are durable and tough rather than have them being one hit wonders. We would would hope he shows a little bit of his ability and that we can move forward positively with him once he has the experience under his belt.

One would expect the race to head the way of Silca’s Dream who was beaten just a nose on soft going on her second start at Bath, when he and his conqueror pulled nine lengths clear of the rest of the field. This race probably has ore depth to it and Exotic Guest will provide a challenge if handling the soft going. Moe’s Place certainly has the pedigree to be of interest on this going and the trainer is capable of having one ready first time out.

Chandelle Celeste had a nice introduction to racing life under a sensible ride form Eddie Ahern who bounced her out of the stalls and kept her racing with the main field until it became apparent she wasn’t handling the heavy ground at Newbury. He was easy on her as soon as it became apparent she would play no part in the finish and waited on a backmarker to join him before seeing it off comfortably so that she learned plenty. We’ll probably head to the all weather next and drop her in trip as Eddie felt she had plenty of speed and a drop back to the minimum wouldn’t harm her. She only qualifies for open maidens so we are some what restricted in finding her races so will have to see run her at five or six depending on fits as a good schedule for her. Ultimately her aim will be a handicap as she will probably always find a couple to good for her in an open maiden. Her behaviour and attitude were very pleasing and it would be nice to think she’ll pick up a race before the end of the year.
