Thoughts on Outgate

Outgate returns to the turf today (Wednesday, April 13th) at Newmarket for the 4.45. He lines up in the mile handicap under Richard Kingscote. Outgate’s progression over the winter has been pleasing. He won twice last season and finished the season with a second at Newmarket over seven furlongs. It looked that day as if the extra furlong he gets today should suit him well.

With 16 runners this will be competitive. Plenty of the field are likely to have progressed from 2 to 3. Others come here having already won maidens and novices over the winter, they have an edge in terms of fitness. Nasim has already shown that he has stepped forward over the winter with an all weather handicap win in March. The form of that race looks good and that basis he has to enter calculations. Tylos ran to a good level on all three starts and comes here with the highest rating. Former Shadwell inmates Aldhaja and Ikhtiraaq are unexposed running for new connections. Tranquil Night comes here off the back of two wins.

Outgate will be led up by Lauren Webb who rides him regularly and overseen by Shaun Johnson. Jan Kasecky cares for him at home. He will be running in the colours of owner and breeders Mr & Mrs G Middlebrook.
