Thoughts on Outrage

Today (22nd January), Outrage runs in the All-Weather Championship Qualifier at Newcastle. Kieran O’Neill rides the gelding in the 5 furlong sprint at 5.45. Its an exciting opportunity for his owners to compete at a good level and also for our team to showcase their talents in developing horses for targets like this.

Outrage has been in cracking form of late winning three times and finishing second three times in his last seven starts and never further than a length and a half from the front. His three starts over five at Newcastle in that sequence have all resulted in wins and he has an excellent record over course and distance, with four victories in all. He is unbeaten over five at the track wearing blinkers. This includes his most recent start a fortnight ago where he looked better than ever when seeing off a field of useful handicappers.

This is a step up in grade to take on some of the very best all weather sprinters and Encore D’Or sets a serious standard, he finished second in a Group 3 on his last start and is rated 109, 15lbs clear of Outrage. Veteran Tropics might not be quite the force of old but won last time and is still rated 104, whilst the young contender is Stone of Destiny who is rated 104. The latter probably has a bit to prove having been largely disappointing in some strong company in the second half of last season and comes here after being gelded and a long break.
