Thoughts on Passing Star
Passing Star has his first run for the yard since being purchased in the 8.15 at Chelmsford tomorrow evening (Thursday 16th March). Paddy Pilley rides in the one mile handicap. Paddy has recently returned from a stint in Australia where he rode a few winners and no doubt learned plenty and is now apprentice to Roger Charlton. We are still learning about Passing Star, who like any older athlete has few niggles and aches that need managing. We let him settle in for a couple of weeks and have only done a few easy bits of work with him since his arrival. We will learn plenty about him tomorrow evening. He was a very talented young horse who won his first three starts, all on the all weather – since then his form has been mixed but he has always been running in higher grades than this so hopefully he can be pretty competitive at this level. Passing Star is drawn a bit wider than ideal.
Byres Road probably sets the standard having been running reasonably consistently without winning in this sort of grade and slightly higher in recent starts. Welliesinthewater just saw off Intensical and that pair might handle the step up in grade with King of Dreams another to consider with consistent recent efforts.
