Thoughts on Percy’s Lad
We are fortunate to send another runner to the prestigious Chester May Meeting. Percy’s Lad returns to the place he knows and loves on Friday 10th May. Richard Kingscote takes the ride on him in the 1.30pm Class 2 Handicap over 7 furlongs and 127 yards.
Percy’s Lad has an excellent record around Chester, he holds the track record at this distance. He was third in this race last year from stall 13. That might have been the difference between winning and losing so its a bit frustrating to get the same draw again. The ground is quicker this year which could be a plus. Whilst he runs well on most going he is arguably at his very best on a faster surface.
A typically competitive handicap. Maiden Dancing Magic has some classy form and a good draw, the drop back in distance is probably fine for him. Liamarty Dreams comes here in great form as he bids for a hat trick. He has a great draw too, however this would be a career best and he was behind a few of these in a similar race last summer. Boardman has a good course record, and hasn’t been beaten far in the last two renewals of this race.
Percy’s Lad runs in the colours of owner Alan Kerr. He will be led up by Sammy Barnett who cares for him daily at home. He was purchased as a horse in training by Daniel & Claire for his owner for £30,000 as a Horse in Training. The gelding has won three race and £60,000 in prize money. He has run at several major meetings including Royal Ascot.
